Karl Jaspers Centre for Advanced Transcultural Studies, Heidelberg University, October 8 - 10, 2014

We are pleased to announce the sixth Annual Conference of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context”

The Annual Conference “Cultural Mediation: Creativity, Performance, Display” strives to explore the many ways in which cultural practice in its widest sense is translated, circulated, exhibited and performed in different cultural, political or religious contexts. The conference will highlight how individuals, collectives or institutions constitute, appropriate or alter cultural goods or processes across time and space.

On October 8, the conference will open with a keynote by Prof. Erika Fischer-Lichte, director of the Institute of Theatre Studies and the international Research Centre “Interweaving Performance Cultures” at the Free University Berlin. She will talk about “Interweaving Performance Cultures: A Transcultural Approach”.

Prof. Nikolas Jaspert, chair for Mediaeval History at Heidelberg University will deliver the second keynote on Thursday evening, October 9, entitled “Cultural Brokerage: A Medieval Mediterranean Perspective”. The keynotes will be followed by a reception.

The conference features a number of panel sessions in the mornings and afternoons. Scholars from the Cluster of Excellence and invited guest speakers will examine the conference theme from a variety of disciplinary, thematic and regional perspectives. The panels are also designed to present research findings from the wide-ranging projects conducted at the Cluster.
