“As I travelled around the Bangalore that I loved and cherished, I felt that I had landed on Mars. Transformation has to be designed in meaningful ways, and this is where an architect has to get into his role seriously for the sake of society,” said renowned architect Charles Correa.

About Bengaluru, Mr. Correa said, “To travel fast from a city of ‘little Cantonment areas’ to a ‘multi-storey city” is frightening, but to break away from the community of life itself and get boxed into gated communities is but selfish and disastrous.”

Coming down heavily on BMRCL for constructing elevated line on M.G. Road and ruining its charm, Mr. Correa said the humongous concrete pillars could have been erected on Cubbon Road instead, or the line could have been taken underground.

“I recollect an official telling me that all the money went into taking metro underground in the Vidhana Soudha surroundings. Architects here could have suggested the entire framework in steel so that we could dismantle the whole thing later on. Now you are stuck with it for 500 years,” he said.
