Sources said the railways wants the UNESCO to guide them through this project to prevent goof-ups and controversies.

MUMBAI: Bandra railway station, a Grade I heritage structure, may get its original look back again with the Western Railway seeking assistance from the United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the conservation work.

"The restoration, planned with assistance from UNESCO as consultants, will include developing the public realm works, landscaping, making Bandra station a cultural hub by sporting contemporary art by local artists, beautifying the nearby areas and the concourse and tiling the platforms," said Sharat Chandrayan, WR chief public relations officer.

"The paving will be removed and the facade of the other station buildings, including those housing ATMs, will be redone to be in sync with the heritage architecture," he added.
