The second international multi-disciplinary conference on the Archaeology of Sound

Presentations from researchers, scholars and technologists working across diverse disciplines, sites and practices will focus on the ancient use of sound in sacred and contemplative spaces. “We are particularly interested in the role acoustic behavior may have had in the development and design of important architecture and ritual spaces throughout the ancient world, and its possible biological impact on brain activity,” say organizers from The OTS Foundation.  Presentations from fields such as archaeology, social anthropology, physics, neuroscience, architectural engineering, are expected to lead toward creating a new methodology for interpretation.  The non-profit conference welcomes academics, independent researchers, musicologists and non-presenting enthusiasts.  A planned workshop will address the creation of a theoretical base, standardization of data and development of an accepted methodology for the study of the emerging field of Archaeoacoustics.
