Housing and Public Works Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain while responding to questions in parliament said necessary actions were underway to safeguard the original design by Kahn.

The minister said graves were set up in the parliament premises on different times following government’s directions.

“We have begun the process of collecting the original design after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed for its preservation,” the minister said adding that the original design of Louis Khan is available at Pennsylvania University of USA, Architectural Archive.

Necessary actions would be taken to preserve all the establishments of the parliament and its adjacent areas once the original design is available.

Meanwhile, the housing and public works ministry has proposed removal of the graves of seven other distinguished personalities from the parliament complex area as the graves were not in the original design.

Other than the graves, there are also seven establishments in the JS complex which were not in the I Kahn’s design.
