Ahmedabad: Shenzhen city, which is under the direct administrative control of China's central government, announced on Saturday an investment of US $200 million (approximately Rs 1300 crore) for smart city projects in Gujarat.

The investment would be made in projects to be developed and executed by ZTEsoft Technology, a leading Chinese provider of telecom software.

Shenzhen deputy mayor, Tainfu, who was in Gandhinagar to announce the investment, said: "Shenzhen will invest US $200 million in ZTEsoft's smart city projects in Gujarat." said ZTEsoft is a subsidiary of ZTE Corporation, the largest public telecom equipment manufacturer in China.

Shenzhen government, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's China visit in May this year, had signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Gujarat government to offer its co-operation and expertise in developing smart cities in the state. Shenzhen will offer its resources, including financial, to develop and implement various facilities for smart cities in Gujarat.
