Australian Historical Association 2016 Conference, Ballarat                                             

AHA 2016: From Boom to Bust is convened by the Collaborative Research Centre in Australian History (CRCAH) at Federation University Australia.

The conference will be held in central Ballarat, at FedUni's SMB and Camp St campuses, and at the Ballarat Mechanics' Institute.

Opening events will take place on the evening of Monday 4 July, and the conference will run until Friday 8 July. Goldfields site visits and ancillary events will be scheduled for Saturday 9 July.

Conference themes include:

  • Frontier encounters and challenging colonial legacies
  • Urban and regional histories
  • Industrial heritage, cultural landscapes and historic urban landscapes
  • Minerals and mining, from gold seeking to the end of the second long boom
  • Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) sector, history and cultural heritage
  • Labour and economic histories
  • Environmental histories
  • Oral histories, public histories, genealogical and migration stories

The AHA conference organising committee welcomes proposals for:

  • individual papers that reflect critically on our theme or sub-themes from any angle, historical period, or research area, or
  • panel sessions that
  • bring together postgraduate, early career and established researchers; or
  • bring together those working in the GLAM sector with academics; or
  • group three or four papers and a chair

Proposals consisting of an abstract of no more than 200 words per paper, together with a 60 word author biography, should be submitted to aha2016[at]federation.edu.au

Affiliated conferences and special strands. A number of themed strands and affiliated conferences are planned for the AHA 2016 conference. Unless otherwise directed, please send all abstracts for these affiliated events to aha2016[at]federation.edu.au and clearly indicate which strand (if any) you would like to participate in. Presenters at affiliate streams must be members of the affiliate organisation, and take out ordinary registration for the AHA conference.
