New Delhi: Days after TOI reported the pathetic condition of Nehru Place , one of India's largest computer goods markets, the Union urban development ministry has sought a report from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) regarding the same. The ministry has also asked the DDA to check the condition of other markets developed by it.

On Saturday, a team of DDA and South Corporation officials carried out an inspection of the market to assess its condition. DDA officials admitted that some buildings are in urgent need of repair. The land owning agency is now planning to prepare a detailed plan for the redevelopment of the area. "We have inspected the area. There are several issues which need to be addressed. We will draw up a redevelopment plan along with other agencies, which are responsible for the upkeep of the area," said JP Aggarwal , principal commissioner, land disposal and housing, DDA.

Officials say that building are in bad condition as these were constructed in late 1970s. There are some vacant plots, which DDA plans to auction as part of the redevelopment plan.
