VADODARA: The opposition in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has objected to the large-scale demolition of dwellings planned by the civic body. State Congress general secretary Narendra Ravat said that this was being done for housing schemes under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

Ravat said that thousands of houses are being demolished by the VMC in the name of a slum free city under different schemes. He said that under schemes like the Mukhyamantri Gruh Yojana and Pradhanmantri Aavas Yojana, land worth thousands of crores is being given to private builders under the PPP model.

Ravat alleged that thousands of families would be left at the mercy of private builders. He claimed that even the surveys would be done by private builders and the families would be left to fend for their own at a meagre rent of Rs 2000 per family.
