The Archaeological Survey of India said on Tuesday three new cultural sites in India, including the iconic Sun Temple at Modhera, the historic Vadnagar town in Gujarat - PM Modi's birth place - and the rock-cut relief sculptures of Unakoti in Tripura, have been added to the tentative list of Unesco world heritage sites.

The Unesco tentative heritage list is an inventory of those properties which each State Party, in this case India, intends to consider for nomination. Though adding a site on the tentative list is a necessary prerequisite for any cultural, natural or mixed heritage site to make it to the Unesco World Heritage List, its placement on the tentative list does not guarantee that it will be included in the list.

Union culture minister G Kishan Reddy congratulated ASI for constantly identifying more monuements and places for the World Heritage List.
