The contribution made during the last 25 years to the under- standing and revival of Indian Architecture by the seven volumes1 of "Mãnasãra Series" is well-known. The proposed introduction throughout India, of Hindi and several other Indian languages as media of instruction at all stages of primary, secondary and higher education, has now brought a new orientation to the purpose which such old scientific literature can eminently serve.

2. The Government of India set up in 1950 a Board of Philologists and Scientists to consider the question of evolving a uni- form scientific terminology for the country, and for preparing a dictionary of such terms for all modern Indian languages. A special Unit was set up in the Ministry of Education under the name " Hindi Section and five Expert Committees organised by that Section have so far placed before universities and other educationalists in the country several "Provisional Lists" of technical terms for use in secondary schools, for different subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Social Sciences, Defence, Agriculture, &c.
