THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF WORKS, HOUSING AND SUPPLY (SHRI ANIL K. CHANDA): (a) Not yet, Sir.
(b) and (c). Do not arise.
SHRI DEOKINANDAN NARAYAN: May I know how many designs have been received from foreign architects and how many from Indian architects?
SHRI ANIL K. CHANDA: I think, Sir, that all the designs that were received for this particular competition were received from Indian architects.
SHRI DEOKINANDAN NARAYAN: How much money has been spent from the beginning up to now on this?
SHRI ANIL K. CHANDA: Four artists were specially invited to submit designs and they were each paid Rs. 10,000. Regarding this open competition, two prizes of Rs. 4,000 each have been given.
SHRI DEOKINANDAN NARAYAN: May I know when the committee was appointed first to select the design for this purpose?
SHRI ANIL K. CHANDA: I think it -was in 1950.
SHRI DEOKINANDAN NARAYAN: May I know the reasons why there has been so much of delay?
SHRI ANIL K. CHANDA: On several occasions in this House, answers have been given to this question. There was no unanimity about the selection of the design and, therefore, Govern ment wanted to take advantage of as many designs as could be offered before they could make up their mind finally.
