"Odeon" was an ancient Greek word meaning “singing place” – and promotor Oscar Deutsch and his team decided it wasn’t too exotic to risk alienating the British cinemagoing public. Additionally, it started with Oscar Deutsch’s initials, and was used to spell out “Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation” in advertising campaigns.
