UIA DURBAN 2014 Durban

The next UIA Congress will be in Durban, South Africa.  Architecture
Otherware (http://www.uia2014durban.org) will take up themes of
resilience, ecology and values.

Global Studio, in collaboration with the Center for Sustainable Urban
Development at Columbia University,  will offer a Focus Area on the topic
“Addressing Poverty and or Informality through Education and Practice”.
  We are interested papers from the developing and developed world.  If you
would be interested in offering a paper at UIA Durban in this focus area,
please note that abstracts are due October 31.

ADDRESSING INFORMALITY AND OR POVERTY THROUGH
DESIGN EDUCATION AND PRACTICE
intends to capture the experience, philosophy/approach, methods used and
lessons learned with regards to educational and professional practices in
contexts of informality and or poverty. Topics that might be included in
this focus area are theory, practice, learning, policy, action research,
climate change, inclusivity, and commitment to community engagement.
