The state government has asked Rajiv Mishra, the principal of Sir JJ College of Architecture, to design the ambitious Rs200-crore memorial project of Chhatrapati Shivaji even though he does not have any expertise in this field.

....

When contacted, Mishra admitted that he has no experience in this area. "But we are preparing the sketches as the government has asked me to do so. Our design will be used temporarily."

It seems that like the ancient Colossus of Rhodes, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil and Mother Russia monuments built as tributes to a nation's achievements, Mumbai too may get a wonder of its own, a monumental statue of Chhtrapati Shivaji.

The Maratha warrior king was on the Chief Minister's mind as he went on this boat ride with his deputy to examine exactly where the colossal 309-foot-high statue will come up.

About 309 feet, 30 storey high and almost two kilometers into the sea, the Shivaji statue will stand taller than the Statue of Liberty.
