CHENNAI: The India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) is investing about Rs 2,000 crore to expand its exhibition centre Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Pragati Maidan, ITPO's largest exhibition centre, is now spread over 123 acres with one lakh sqm of exhibition space and ITPO is planning to add another 65,000 sqm, the executive director of ITPO, Malay Shrivastava, said.

He was speaking the media on the sidelines of the India International Leather Fair (IILF), a three-day business-to-business leather trade fair organized by the ITPO with support from the Council for Leather Exports . The fair was inaugurated on Friday.

ITPO is also planning to set up another convention centre with seating capacity of about 8,000 people in addition to the existing Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, which can seat about 4,000 people, Srivastava said. ITPO has a corpus of around Rs 800 crore to fund the expansion and will take a loan for the remaining amount.
