NAVI MUMBAI: A year-and-a-half before the Mumbra building collapse which killed 74, Navi Mumbai-based builder Sunil Kumar Lahoria highlighted over 600 unauthorised structures in Navi Mumbai, including 21 towers at Palm Beach Road.

Lahoria, gunned down outside his Vashi office in February, had also informed the state and municipal authorities how various builders were brazenly violating FSI rules to make illegal constructions and additional floors. The two prime accused in his murder, developer Suresh Bijlani and architect Anurag Garg, are still absconding.

Lahoria's son, Sandeep Kumar said, "My father paid a very heavy price for exposing irregularities that took place with the active involvement of government officers. He made use of the Right To Information Act to deal with corruption, but he was killed."

He added a Mumbra-like situation must not be allowed to occur and steps should be taken to curb illegal structures.
