CULTHIST ’14 Cultural History and Anthropology Conference aims to bring the cultural history into the agenda with a holistic approach in contact with all branches of the study of history. The conference will underline the heterogeneous, multi-layered quality and will focus on historical and geographical interactions of cultural focal points.

Throughout the history of mankind, the symbols emerge in all eras and in all scales with various appearances and functions. Sometimes the meanings and functions of the symbols are obvious and some-other-times the symbols present a potential of a key that needs to be subjected to more comprehensive studies. In the new millennium, new methodologies and new questions need to be developed that tracks cultural development. Conference, opens its doors to methods and approaches produced by anthropologists from different geographies, identities and tendencies as well as to institutions.

Symbols bear significance, as objects and concepts in themselves. Then again, accumulation of emotional, intellectual, ideological, anthropological, religious and political references equally bears significance, again, in itself. It is more than fair to claim that the role of symbols in daily life, their origins, stylistic qualities and semantic transformations constitute an inseparable part of cultural history.

Within the scope of the conference, it is expected that many presentations about various studies on different fields, periods and regions with respect to the symbols in cultural life and the symbolic understandings of each component of the culture. In addition to historians CULTHIST ’14 will be open for participation by experts from different fields like sociology, psychology, anthropology, political science, archeology, urban and design history, etc.

CULTHIST '14 will be organized from 27th to 29th of October, 2014, by DAKAM (Eastern Mediterranean Academic Research Center).
