In 2015, the CAAD Futures Conference, a platform for the highest level research discussions in the field of Computer Aided Architectural Design, will be held, for the first time, in South America, in the lively megalopolis of Sao Paulo, Brazil. In order to establish a connection to local issues, the theme of the conference will be The next city.

The city of Sao Paulo was torn down and almost completely rebuilt twice, from the mid 1800s to the mid 1900s, evolving from a city built in rammed-earth to a city built in bricks and then to a city built in concrete. In the 21st century, with the widespread use of digital technologies both in the design and the production of the built space, cities are changing even faster, in terms of layout, materials, shapes, textures, production methods and, above all, in terms of the information that is now embedded in built systems. We invite architects, urban designers, computer scientists, engineers and other researchers interested in contemporary issues to join us in this exciting discussion about how the next cities and their buildings will look like, behave and function.

Subjects may address, but are not limited to: theories of design in the digital age, design cognition, algorithmic and parametric design, data analytics, performance-based design, building information modeling, augmented and virtual reality, fabrication technologies, smart buildings, smarts cities, CAAD curriculum, shape & form studies, modeling & simulation, digital aids to design creativity, human-computer interaction, collaborative design, etc.

We look forward to seeing you in Sao Paulo!
