We are going to Tanzania after a very long time away. We are heading to Arusha for our 19th African Real Estate Society (AFRES) Annual Conference to be held on 10th – 13th September, 2019 in Arusha, Tanzania.

Arusha is one of the major cities in Tanzania. It was first settled in 1830s by the agro-pastoral Arusha Maasai frim the Arusha Chini community, south of Mount Kilimanjaro. It always had a number of urban features, as a trading post even before it became a town. In 1900 a German military fort was built meant to impress and dominate the surrounding landscape.  After the British took over in 1916, missionaries from the United States and Britain, and Greek settlers started occupying the farms and land around the area.  Arusha is an important city in Tanzania, it is where the Tanganyika independence documents were signed and the Arusha declaration, the most prominent political statement of African Socialism “Ujamaa”, was signed in 1967. Arusha also has important regional influence with the Arusha Peace and Reconciliation Agreement for Burundi signed there in 2000, and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda hosted there between 1994 and 2014. Arusha is located close to the safari circuit near some of the greatest national parks and game reserves in Africa among them Serengeti National Park and Kilimanjaro National Park. We are sure you will enjoy your stay.
