Dashing hopes of the Chandigarh administration, the ministry of defence has rejected its proposal for tableau to be showcased at the Republic Day parade at Rajpath in New Delhi.

UT administration's two proposed themes -- works of Le Corbusier and Rose Festival --failed to impress the ministry.

Confirming the development, UT joint secretary home and director public relation (DPR) MM Sabharwal said the administration had proposed the themes after much deliberation.

"We had put in lot of efforts, but it failed to impress the national panel. We had even hired a team of experts for conceptualising our tableau." said Sabharwal, who vowed that their tableaus will be there in the 2016 R-Day parade.

After a long gap of 13 years, Chandigarh's tableau of the Rock Garden-a sculpture garden created by Nek Chand-was accepted by the government in 2013. Previously, the national panel had rejected a number of themes proposed for the tableau of Chandigarh,... the city's tableau had failed to make it to the top three positions, with West Bengal bagging the best tableau award. Tamil Nadu and Assam had secured second and third spot, respectively.
