In August 1965, Le Corbusier, recognized as the most important architect of the twentieth-century, passed away in the Mediterranean Sea waters. For this reason, the Architectural Design Department at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, with the support of the Fondation Le Corbusier in Paris, promotes this international conference in Valencia.

Le Corbusier was one of the most prolific architects in the creation of links between ideas and images, between visual arts and architecture, between history and modernity. The power of his ideas was continually being tested and confirmed by his architectural work. In his projects, writings, paintings and sculptures he worked out different visions of what should match architectural modernity, which drew on a personal background built upon diverse ideological references.

If there is any outstanding feature in his career, it is the transversal condition of his creative work. This idea of transversality enables us to open this conference to artists, historians, book publishers, photographers, thinkers and, of course, architects

The LC 2015 congress will be held on November 18-20 2015 at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), which has been recently ranked as the best technical university in Spain by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2014.

METHODS FOR PARTICIPATION

Participants' contributions may initially be carried out at three levels:

  • PAPERS on any issue concerning the work of Le Corbusier in any of its expressions (plastic, architectural, literary, etc.), or on his training or legacy. The Scientific Committee will decide which ones will be suitable for oral presentation and which ones will solely be included in the Conference proceedings.
  • POSTERS with a mainly visual discourse, focused on the analysis, evolution or interpretation of projects, using graphic means. They may be submitted as such, or as a transformation of an originally submitted paper, if the Scientific Committee recommends this.
  • PANELS showing exercises made by architectural students, whose aim would be to reproduce or redraw Le Corbusier's works or projects. They will be displayed in different spaces of the School of Architecture of Valencia. Submission and selection deadlines for papers and posters will not apply to these panels, as they can result from an academic course activity. Some prize for the best panels may be implemented, following the opinion of the Organizing Committee.

Presentation of PUBLICATIONS: The conference will offer a short space (five minutes) for authors of books on Le Corbusier to make a review of their work.

Members of the Scientific Committee have been selected among international experts. In order to ensure the quality of contributions, they will assess papers by peer review with a double-blind system.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to request a participant to change the format of his contribution from paper to poster, in case they consider the contribution fits better within a graphic discourse. This decision will be definitely taken at the end of the review period.
