Book Release: ANCB Edition #2

IAES: Documents NEW DIRECTIONS IN ARCHITECTURE EDUCATION1

We proudly announce the publication of the 3rd International Architectural Education Summit, at Aedes Network Campus Berlin.

Educating the Global Architect has been a core ANCB programme since our establishment in 2009. The opportunity to conceptualise the 3rd IAES, together with UCLA, allowed us to contribute from our endeavours, and stimulate this on-going programme further.

3RD INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE EDUCATION SUMMIT2 New Directions in Architecture Education was the focus of the 3rd IAES, which took place at ANCB in September 2013. Policy and industry representatives, in addition to architecture practitioners and academics, contributed their positions on the following themes:

  • The Role of Alternative Architecture Platforms
  • Interdisciplinary Strategies in Architecture Education
  • Collaboration between Architecture Education and Non-Academic Partners

BACKGROUND: The IAES was initiated in 2009 by Hitoshi Abe, UCLA, as a biennial international forum to discuss the changing field of architecture education, especially counter approaches to the standardisation of curricula worldwide. With our agenda to advance an alternative role for architects in leading interdisciplinary responses to urban challenges, ANCB also contributed to the 2nd IAES in Madrid in 2011.

3rd International Architectural Education Summit Berlin 2013: New Directions in Architecture Education. Berlin: ANCB The Metropolitan Laboratory, 183 pages, 14,6x21 cm. With photos, 10 EUR; ISBN 978-3-44083-01-8.
