Ahmedabad UNESCO WH play - RJ Vasavada out, AGK Menon and team in

AHMEDABAD: For Ahmedabad's Walled City to assert its worth to UNESCO to attain the World Heritage City status, a strong citizen participation programme will have to be in place for conservation and protection. A four-member committee appointed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and CEPT University to review the dossier-making process has opined that local citizens should directly benefit from heritage conservation efforts.

The committee, consisting of heritage conservation committee chief P K Ghosh; author Esther David; conservation architect AGK Menon; and S P Shorey has said, "It would be necessary to establish neighborhood committees to muster citizens' support for heritage promotion and encourage active stakeholder participation."
