Residential, commercial & govt. structures to be assigned identification codes

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), as part of its efforts to transform the city into a ‘smart city’, is working on issuing unique eight-digit identification code to the residential, commercial and government structures to facilitate easy location of address.

Officials are taking up the project of issuing the codes on a pilot basis in 13rd , 17th , 18th and 21st wards, which have been identified as the smart wards in the city. The existing door numbers would continue to exist. The first four digits in the eight digit code would be English alphabets and the rest numerical digits. Further, these unique codes would be synchronised with a cellphone application to facilitate easy location of a particular address. Once a user enters the unique code, the application would zero in on the location and help the user in finding the address easily, said VMC Commissioner G. Veerapandian.

Towards this initiative, the VMC has entitled the job to Zippr Consultancy, a private organisation for taking up the project. The consultancy representatives would collect the details such as current meter service number, gas cylinder connection number, property tax details, ration card number, Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter identification card from the owners of the houses.
