CHANDIGARH: In a major boost for the city, Archeological Survey of India (ASI) selected the Capitol Complex management plan and dossier as a case study for other states of the country at a meeting held in New Delhi on Friday. The plan was recently sent for UNESCO recognition under the transnational segment. ASI received applications for 30 sites across the country for UNESCO recognition, of which 16 were discussed in detail.

In the meeting, which was held in the presence of Sujit Banerjee, chairman of the advisory committee on world heritage matters, ministry of culture, Chandigarh's presentation on the management plan was the first to be shown. The discussion focused on each site of the Capitol Complex, replete with timeline, mode of preparations, importance and key points.

Although, cases of a total of 30 sites were presented before the ASI, only 16 could be discussed in detail, as representatives of the rest could not reach. The ASI is a national body and applications for UNESCO heritage status can only go through the ASI.
