Clearing the air on admission process for B. Tech architecture course in Andhra Pradesh, Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) L. Venugopal Reddy told The Hindu that the admission notification will be released in a day or two and the entire counselling process will be over by September first week and classes would start at the end of the first week.

As per the earlier agreement, post bifurcation, Hyderabad-based Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), was supposed to issue the notification and conduct the admission for both the states of AP and Telangana.

But Telangana State Council for Higher Education had ignored the admission of AP and went ahead with the admission in colleges in Telangana only.

This has created an air of uncertainty for architecture course aspirants of AP.

Ignored by Telangana, the APSCHE has decided to hold its own process and has nominated Viswanath Kumar from the Department of Architecture in Andhra University as the convenor for the admission process.

As per the rules, students who secure a rank in NATA (National Aptitude Test for Architecture) are admitted into the colleges in AP and Telangana, after a counselling process.

The TSCHE, had already issued the notification on August 10, the certificate verification process was over by August 18 and the allotment of seats was completed by August 26.

“We were under the impression that JNAFAU will conduct the process as done last year. But TSCHE had ignored AP and now we are beginning the process”, said Prof. Viswanath Kumar.

In AP there about nine colleges imparting a B. Tech programme in architecture, including in two State-run universities AU and ANU and deemed universities KLU and GITAM. In total there are about 350 seats, in all the nine colleges.

Central institutes such as School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, admits students from the IIT-JEE channel.
