We have decided to find a new name for ourselves. Now that we have done significant work transitioning from a group of chapters to a collectively mobilized and collaboratively led network, we will surface a new banner to rally under, and we want your voice in creating this name.

This network’s existence proves that the most resilient aspect about the old AFH organization are the people. Inspired to deliver on the mission of needs based, participatory design the volunteers remain as steadfast as ever, maybe even more so, working to create more opportunities within the design and AEC professions for humanitarian work. Moving forward we will form a 501(3)c nonprofit in the US and operate to support the professional development of their members, and the incubation of new chapters as sustainable business models for humanitarian design practice.

A few reasons why we’re looking for a new name:

  • We are a new organization While the mission remains similar, we are focused on consensus building, professional development, and support for local groups to develop innovative business models while delivering humanitarian design services.
  • This is a new banner for rallying. The previous organization was not sustainable, so we need to break free of it—both in how we organize and the banner we rally under. So we need a new name!
  • We want to be inclusive. Architecture for Humanity was confined to one profession, often leaving out those outside of architecture who can help deliver on the mission. We now understand the value of interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Inherited Legal Drama. A whole slew of legal issues too boring to list.

This network belongs to anyone who believes in the power of design to have a massive impact on the way we build and are represented in this world. To capture the essence of how you want to see this new organization they are running a campaign to have people record their answers to key questions about our collective efforts.

This short video survey will capture your full conviction for this group by recording your answers to key questions about the mission, value, and goals.

We are excited to continue what Architecture for Humanity started 16 years ago, this time it is collectively defined, collaboratively run, and inclusive.

We look forward to adding your voice to this new venture! Get your submissions in before the survey closes at midnight on Tuesday, September 8th.
