Kalākalpa, Journal of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts since 2003, addresses itself to a holistic understanding of the arts, not as an activity dissociated from life but as a response to it. The Journal is published bi- annually- February (Basant Panchami) and July (Guru Purnima) and edited by Dr. Radha Banerjee Sarkar.

The Journal aims to foster an active dialogue amongst the scholars of various disciplines. It provides a forum for scholarly articles, research notes and book reviews of the highest quality from cultures around the world and covers the following field of disciplines: Archaeology, Anthropology, Art History, Linguistics, Literature, Musicology, Dance, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Diaspora, etc. It covers International, National, Sub-national discoveries, research and issues and related to its themes.

The Chief-Editor welcomes research papers from scholars around the globe for consideration for the publication in the Journal.

Each issue of the journal also includes a substantial section of book reviews of recent publications on the academic theme of the journal and related aspects. Scholarly book reviews are welcomed and Publishers also may send two copies of their recent publications related to the areas of the journal to the Editor for review.
