Charles Correa (b. 1930) is a noted Indian architect, urban planner and activist. An influential architect credited for the creation of modern architecture in post-Independence India, he is noted for his sensitivity to the needs of the urban poor and for his use of traditional methods and materials. He currently spends part of his time teaching at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has been awarded the highest honours of the profession, including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the Praemium Imperiale of Japan, and the Gold Medals of the UIA and the RIBA.
