A day after the theft of heritage furniture was reported from the Government College of Art, the authorities have failed to beef up security

The heritage furniture that costs several lakhs in the international market was kept in the storeroom in the basement. The thieves made their way in by snapping the barbed wire on the college’s boundary wall. They broke three locks to enter the storeroom located in the basement. They took away the locks too.
Police sources said that the involvement of some insider in the theft could not be ruled-out. “Some people can be questioned in this regard in the coming days”, said a police official.
The incident brings to the fore the apathy of the college management towards precious heritage items lying on its premises.
In the last four months, the UT police has failed to make headway in the theft of eight V-shaped cousin chairs and two tables, from Le Corbusier centre in Sector 19. The theft was reported in September, last year.
