Ahmedabad: The Aam Aadmi Party government in Del hi may have begun knocking down the 5.6km BRTS stretch but in Ahmedabad, civic authorities are analyzing why their award-winning BRT has not attracted more passengers on board despite running on dedicated fast-track for over five years.

When Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) surveyed more than 7,100 people-BRTS and non-BRTS users-a large number of up to 70% non-users -voiced the obvious -the bus does not drop them anywhere near their home or workplace.

Preliminary analysis also had many demanding parking space for their two wheelers along the BRTS route while some users found the BRTS fare heftier than other modes of public travel like AMTS.

A large number of nonusers, especially students and office goers, wanted WiFi to be installed along BRTS route.

"We are seriously considering the WiFi suggestion. The municipal commissioner has given us the go-ahead for preparing tenders for setting up our own optical fibre network along the route. It will help us provide WiFi at bus stations within five months, run our GPS, smart card operations and CCTV camera network," says deputy municipal commissioner KL Bachchani.

The analysis of the survey conducted by Cept University on the orders of municipal commissioner D Thara a month ago will be over in the next two weeks.
