BNP today warned the government of “dire consequences” if the grave of the party founder Ziaur Rahman is relocated anywhere from capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

“A dreadful situation will be created if any attempt is taken to remove the majar [grave],” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said at a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan office in Dhaka.

Claiming that the grave has been in the hearts of crores of people, Rizvi said “We will not let the government to make its move a success.”

Rizvi said the nationalist forces will create resistance at the cost of their own lives to halt the government from making such a move.

The press conference was organised following Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury’s joint meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with housing minister, chief architect and officials of parliament on March 29 regarding the bringing of the original design made by Louis I Kahn, main architect of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban from Pennsylvania University.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, speaker said a five member delegation is likely to go to Pennsylvania University, US to bring the original design made by Louis I Kahn.

Earlier during several occasions, Housing and Public Works Minister Khandker Mosharrof Hossain said that the government will relocate all unapproved structures situated inside the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area after restoring the main design made by Louis I Kahn
