Gandhinagar: Finally, after thrice postponing the process of auctioning of development rights on Sabarmati Riverfront, sources in the state urban development department now claim that a major publicity campaign ahead of the auctioning process will begin from June end or first week of July.

The actual auction is likely to take place around middle or last week of November, claim urban development department officials. Chief minister Anandiben Patel has already given the go ahead. A media partner has also been identified.

There were hectic meetings between April 17 and April 20 of the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) board members in Ahmedabad for chalking out a plan for auction of two plots on the riverfront. "First a major publicity and awareness campaign is being designed. They are also planning on special Sabarmati Riverfront merchandise like T-shirts, badges and other forms of paraphernalia. The campaign is aimed at building a tempo around the Riverfront till the November auction," said a senior urban development official.

The SRFDCL will not be selling land on Riverfront but would only sell development rights. There is a separate development control regulation for the Riverfront plots," said a senior SRFDCL official.
