Vijayawada: Amidst a raging controversy over capital city plans submitted by Japan's Maki Associates, the state government has roped in seven Indian companies which have made a name for themselves in the field of architecture.

Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana conducted a review meeting with panel architects inviting better ideas reflecting Andhra culture in the Amaravati capital complex. The panel architects including Hafeez Contractor, CP Kukreja, Gian P Mathur, HCP Design, Prof Anand Ravi, D Guha and Sikka Associates participated in the discussions held here on Monday and asked the Minister to clarify the requirements of government and extent of land for government buildings complex.

The Minister asked the architects to come out with their innovative designs within three weeks. He said that the best designs would be included in the capital design. He said the master architect would be finalised by next month and he has to submit the capital design within six months. He said that the capital design submitted by Maki Associates of Japan is not final and the government has the authority to modify the design to suit the local flavour.
