Celebrities Speak

While Pune district's Rajgad , Shivneri and Torna featured among the many forts being proposed for the coveted tag, going beyond the feeling of pride and jubilation, we ask whether the forts, beginning with these, make the cut at the moment. Are we as citizens responsible enough to help further this move? Celeb and city trekkers discuss.

Celeb Speak

These celebs, both avid trekkers share their sentiments about the move

(Mrunmayee Deshpande) As my father is an avid trekker, I've frequented these forts since childhood. Facilities for accommodation have always been a challenge and subsequently sanitation. We could help further the government's initiative by being responsible and not littering when we visit these forts.

(Pari Telang) I appreciate the state government's intention to get the world heritage tag for Maharashtra's forts. It will not only add value but also boost tourism. When I went to Raigad, I was pained to see doodling on the structure. What needs to change first is our mentality and the way we look at our heritage structures. Appointing guides on location who are adept with the geography of these forts would help trekkers, specially novices.
