New Delhi: Over two lakh houses have been constructed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U) in various states in the last two years, Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

"During the last two years, 2,23,814 houses have been constructed under JNNURM, RAY, PMAY-U by implementing agencies," Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Rao Inderjit Singh said during Question Hour.

Housing and urbanisation come under the purview of the state governments, he said, adding that central schemes like JNNURM, RAY, PMAY-U are being implemented for providing low cost houses and related civic amenities to the urban poor including slum dwellers.

The states and union territories including Andhra Pradesh are implementing these schemes through their agencies like Urban Local Bodies and Housing Boards, he said.

"Under the schemes of JNNURM and RAY, 13,86,761 houses have been sanctioned,of which construction of 10,60,899 houses were completed. Further, 8,54,386 houses for urban poor have been sanctioned for construction under PMAY-U, 'Housing For All' mission since its inception on June 25, 2015."
