Amaravati: The State government is mulling over private participation in urban housing schemes. The first Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting held at temporary Secretariat on Thursday discussed urban development and policy reforms.

Minister for Finance Yanamala Ramakrishnudu held a series of review meetings on administration reforms, housing and revenue with the Ministers of the departments concerned.

The meeting discussed the need to construct houses in rural as well urban areas. The GoM felt the need for private participation to solve the problem of urban housing, which also eases financial burden on the government.

Stating that lands are available with APIIC, the GoM said that the State government is considering the same lands for construction of houses and emphasised on maintaining quality in construction.

Chief Secretary S P Tucker and other officials were also present. Meanwhile, Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana, Minister for Housing Kimidi Mrunalini and Minister for Labour K Atchennaidu abstained for the meeting.

It is believed that the Ministers were not present as the meeting is called for on Amavasya, which is not an auspicious day.
