CFP for a session on the Rural History Conference

The aim of this panel is to extend Foucauld’s notion of biopower to bring together the history of plant & animal breeding and genetics, rural history and comparative political histories of the construction of  the modernizing state (whether in US progressive Era, fascist europe, USSR, colonial settings, post-WW2 Europe or Mexico, Philippine or India during the « Green Revolution »). We wish to analyse how the genetic optimization and standardization of crops and cattle went hand in hand with the making of new political regimes, new landscapes and new ecologies.

Send an abstract (100-300 words) of your paper to Christophe Bonneuil (christophe.bonneuil[at]cnrs.fr) and Tiago Saraiva (tfs37[at]drexel.edu).
