The urban development ministry has to provide financial assistance of over Rs.2 trillion over the next five years under the PMAY. This would allow construction of houses for around 20 million urban poor by 2022 under the ‘Housing for All’ mission.

“Digital India Mission is transforming the country and collaboration with CSC SPV (special purpose vehicle) will help in bringing more urban poor under the ambit of this scheme by addressing the difficulties associated in physical submission of applications to urban local bodies for want of adequate help and guidance,” said Venkaiah Naidu, minister of urban development, housing and urban poverty alleviation in a government statement on Wednesday.

According to the MoU, CSCs provide a printed acknowledgement receipt having a beneficiary’s photograph which will help the applicant in tracking the application status. Beneficiaries have to visit the nearest centre to seek assistance to avail online benefits of PMAY.

In case a beneficiary does not have an Aadhaar card, a mandatory identification proof, CSCs will help in enrolment. The process of applying online is e-know-your-customer-enabled, which allows instant verification through biometrics.2
