JAIPUR: Special purpose vehicles (SPV) that will spearhead the enormous task of transforming Ajmer and Kota into smart cities have been formed by the state government. 

The SPVs (in Kota and Ajmer) will plan, appraise, approve, release funds, implement, manage, operate, monitor and evaluate the smart city development projects. 

Local Self Government (LSG) principal secretary will be the chairman of the SPVs, which have been registered under the Companies Act, 2013. The district collector, mayor and urban improvement trust (UIT) chairman of Kota and Ajmer will be the vice-presidents of SPV. 

Similarly, collector will be the officiating chief executive officer of the SPV till the full-fledged CEO is appointed, said an official. 

Recently, the Centre included Kota in the list of 100 potential Indian cities to be developed as smart cities under Smart City Mission. 

As per the officials, 18 projects for Kota have been identified in area-based development under smart city plan.
