It is with great respect and urgency that I write to you regarding the possible demolition of the hall of Nations exhibition complex at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. I write as Lead Curator for Design and Architecture at M+, a new museum for visual culture currently under construction in the west Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong. Funded by the Hong Kong SAR government, M+ is an ambitious project that aims to offer a substantial, and possibly unprecedented, institutional voice for the narratives and discourses of 20^th and 21^st century art, design and architecture, and moving image, from an Asian perspective and within a global context.

In this regard, the work of Raj Rewal is of great importance and interest to us, coming from one of the most significant architects of the 20^th century, and especially of post-Independence India. We are committed to including Mr. Rewal’s work in our museum’s permanent collection, including materials relating to the Hall of Nations—a landmark project that stake an important place among the modern architectural and cultural achievements of our region. I strongly and respectfully urge you to preserve the Hall of Nations exhibition complex as an important part of India’s post-Independence heritage. It forms a key part of an architectural legacy that is increasingly being recognized around the world—and, we hope, within India as well. Its loss would be a great one for all of us.
