 ... So far architecturally irrelevant structures are being demolished. The Hall of Nations, Industries and the Nehru pavilion are still intact as the INTACH petition is in court. The next hearing is the 23rd. ....

"still there but till when?" - BREAK IN INDIA - Hall of Nations, Delhi
"still there but till when?" - BREAK IN INDIA - Hall of Nations, Delhi - The Heritage Conservation Committee rejects its own panel's recommendation. This govt ( key is - highest levels, including Prime Minister's office) is undermining every institution to push its agenda. With 2 1/2 years left - they can destroy these buildings, but nothing can be built by then. What is the back story ? What is the Malaysian firm rumoured to have been given the contract to build and run this, if true ? A sad day for the DUAC ( Delhi Urban Arts Commission) set up by an act of Parliament in 1974. My father, Habib was the first secretary and instrumental in setting it up with Indira Gandhi. E Alkazi and AP Kanvinde were members. Sadly the 1975 emergency and Sanjay Gandhi and Jagmohan undermined it right away with the Turkman gate demolitions, which the DUAC had the power to stop. I was in MIT when I heard that the members were to be arrested for their opposition. Luckily, Bhagwan Sahay somehow got word to Indira over Sanjay's head and they escaped arrest.
