AN EARNEST APPEAL TO SAVE HALL OF NATIONS, PRAGATI MAIDAN 

Honorable Minister Shri Nirmala Sitharaman, 

The Hall of Nations at Pragati Maidan is an icon of Indian Modern architecture and is an important landmark in the history of Modern Indian Architecture, designed by eminent architects Raj Rewal and Mahendra Raj. They have been serving as architecture case studies, attracting many students of architecture as well as other tourists not only from India but from across the world and represent Indian outlook of that time. Currently these icons are under the threat of demolition. 

We, at Alpha Institute of Architecture Studies (GJ-32), are in strong agreement of widespread sentiment against its demolition. We humbly request the honorable ministry to look into this decision again. Honorable Prime Minister of India is a strong supporter of Indian Architecture and Heritage. This is a live monument of tangible living heritage and we all should attempt to rejuvenate this. There is an opportunity for us as a country to come up with an outstanding example of adaptive reuse of this structure which the world will take a note of. 

In the light of facts mentioned above, we – as a responsible architecture institution once again humbly request the respected ministry to reconsider the decision of demolition and reciprocate to the sentiments of Indian Architecture Community.
