Imagine that materials have an ability to sense each manipulation, and send relative data to a processor to encode transformation algorithms and to execute digital 3D-models altering in real-time…

The concept of augmented materials and their possible implementations as innovative architectural design strategies will be introduced and discussed through a hands-on workshop as a part of CAAD Futures 2017. This workshop aims to introduce a new approach of discovering architectonic potentials of different materials through physical and digital computation by using available technologies.  To invoke contributions from researchers and practitioners in fields of interface design, HCI, architectural prototyping, architectural design is the main focus. In that sense, the workshop targets to establish a multidisciplinary community to discuss and develop new technologies and innovative strategies in computer aided architectural design. Augmented materials draw a future trajectory of material computers and how computer aided design might be transformed.
