More than 3,200 stores are shutting down - here's the full list

Credit Suisse predicts that 2017 will see more store closings than any year in 2000s. "About 3,600 store closings have been announced this year. Credit Suisse estimates that about 8,640 stores will ultimately close by December," Hayley Peterson writes for Business Insider. 1

Former O'Neil's / May Company / Kaufmann's / Macy's Department Store - Canton Centre (formerly Mellett Mall) - West Tuscarawas Street, Canton, Ohio - The Mellett Mall opened in 1965 as an open-air shopping center. The shopping center was expanded a couple times before finally being enclosed in the late 1970s. In 1988 the Mellett Mall was renamed Canton Centre Mall. Since the 1990s, the Canton Centre mall has been slowly dying. One wing was demolished for a Walmart store in 2004. Since then, all stores have left the inside of the mall and the food court on the front of the mall was subdivided into store space for a shopping center. The shopping center still uses the Canton Center name and still houses a couple old tenants (DEB and Velocity) that were previously inside the mall. JCPenney is the only original tenant of the mall that is still open. Today, much of the mall still sits abandoned right behind the newer-looking shopping center. The O'Neil's/May Co./Kaufmann's/Macy's store closed in 2008. It is very easy to pass this abandoned mall if you do not know it is hidden behind the shopping center. © Flickr/Nicholas Eckhart
