The government’s survey of encroachments is being conducted to clear the land for affordable housing.

In a bid to curb encroachment on government land in Gurgaon, the Haryana government will use drones to conduct aerial surveys of the city.

The state government has implemented ‘Housing for All’ and other schemes to provide affordable housing in Haryana. The areas encroached upon will be recovered by the government and used to provide housing for city residents, a government spokesperson said on Thursday after the decision was taken during a meeting in Chandigarh.

The pilot project will be conducted in Gurgaon, Karnal and Faridabad and will later be replicated in other districts, the spokesperson added. The data will also shed light on how many affordable housing projects can be implemented.

Despite the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) conducting several drives to remove encroachments from government land in the city, a number of areas are still encroached upon.

The MCG has been conducting regular drives since last year after internal surveys found that approximately 670 acres of government land worth Rs4,000 crore had been encroached upon in Gurgaon.
