AHMEDABAD: The quest of Ahmedabad to become India's first World Heritage Cityhas suffered a setback. Unesco's World Heritage Committee (WHC) has informed the Indian government that it has deferred Ahmedabad's World Heritage City nomination this year. Originally, the nomination was to be discussed at Unesco's 41st session, to be held between July 2 and 12 in Krakow, Poland.

In a detailed note, the WHC has explained to the Indian government that it found vital aspects missing or unconvincing in Ahmedabad's dossier. The WHC has said that it was not satisfied with the documentation related to the Outstanding Universal Values for Ahmedabad's walled city - referring to the urban fabric, pol culture, spaces, and buildings.
