The authority which looks after the development works in Old city has been facing problems regarding funds

Hyderabad: The dysfunctional Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) had been crippled to the core, following the continuous neglect of the State government in allocating funds and infrastructure development works. The authority was established in 1982 with the intention to carry out the development works in Old city but after three decades the body now remains dysfunctional.

The standalone body whose chairman is supposedly the Chief Minister, functions under the supervision of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner. However, with no permanent administrator for a long time, the body could not function and deliver.

The body looked after the construction of school buildings, primary health centres (PHC)s, laying of roads and other repair and maintenance works so far. A QQSUDA official, who does not want to be recognised, said most of the works were now being taken up by the GHMC and no work is assigned to the body.

The official said, “Earlier the authority used to take up all the major infrastructure development works but now it is not the case. If government is not interested to give works to the authority it must shut it down.”Interestingly, there have been reports that the government was contemplating to close it down. It is to be noted here that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government did not allocate any funds for QQSUDA in the current 2017-18 budget.
