The Spatial Humanities Working Group colloquium provides a mutli-disciplinary setting in which students, faculty, and the public can discuss—across disciplinary boundaries—theoretical, conceptual, and methodological questions regarding space and human society. Participants and presenters have routinely come from History, Geography, Environmental Studies, English, Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology. This year's presenters will expand that list even further.

Once a month, discussants pre-circulate papers (usually works in progress), and we then convene for an informal and lively discussion. Presenters receive written and verbal feedback; participants come away with knowledge of interesting projects, potential collaborations, and new ways of thinking about space. You can find an archive of SHWG's past presenters, as well as more information about the spatial humanities at our website, http://spatialhumanities.unm.edu.

SHWG's 2018 roster is still taking shape, and we welcome submissions from across the academy, from both faculty and graduate students, as well as the wider public. Participants can present physically (in person) or remotely via video-conference link. We especially welcome submissions which look at the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality and space. If you are interested in presenting your work, please contact the co-conveners, Dr. Fred Gibbs and/or Dr. Taylor Spence. Please let us know your interests, however vague, as soon as possible so that we can best accommodate everyone’s busy schedules.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: December 22, 2017

SHWG may be able to reimburse travel expenses within driving distance of Albuquerque, New Mexico, for those who want to present in person.
